What is Opinion Outpost?
Opinion Outpost is a paid survey site, owned by market research company Dynata, that works with many brands and companies to help them improve their products and services.
When you join the platform and share your opinion, you may shape a company’s offerings and will earn a little pocket change for your time.
To become a member and get paid for surveys, you’ll provide personal information, such as where you live, your occupation, where you went to college, and your race and gender.
I know it might seem “creepy” to share these details, but don’t worry — it stays completely private and confidential. Opinion Outpost just uses the information to match you with appropriate surveys. Opinion Outpost carefully outlines its privacy policies, and I felt comfortable enough after reviewing these to sign up.
How does Opinion Outpost work?
Opinion Outpost rewards you with points when you complete a survey. The number of points you get will depend on the survey's topic and length. Opinion Outpost pays 10 points on average, but some surveys may reward you up to 250 points.
You can redeem these points for cash or gift cards at about $0.10 per point. This means that 10 points equal $1, and 100 points equal $10.
Opinion Outpost makes it easy to answer surveys in a few quick steps. Once you’re a “member,” you can see the available surveys, which will vary in length and pay. Here’s the process I went through when testing it out.
1. Sign up
The first step is to sign up to be an Opinion Outpost member. The sign-up form was simple and only took me a few seconds. I had to provide my name, address, age, and gender. I also had to read and agree to the Privacy Policy and Terms and Conditions.
Privacy Policy
More on that Privacy Policy. I know it may seem like the platform asks a lot of personal questions, but this is how it matches you with survey opportunities and makes sure its clients — the companies paying for consumer opinions — get the research they need.
Opinion Outpost states that it keeps your information “100% private and confidential,” and you may have better chances of getting survey invitations if you provide more information. However, just because the platform keeps responses safe doesn’t mean it doesn’t share them. Its parent company, Dynata, has disclosed personal information to third parties in the past. You’re entitled to specific information about how your data is used and sold, and you can call 833-909-1804 for details and/or to opt out of or limit the disclosure and sale of your personal information.
Good to know
You may be asked to provide “sensitive data” for some surveys, like information about your health and medical conditions, religion, sexual orientation, etc., but this is always on a voluntary basis.2. Find available surveys
After signing up, I was immediately presented with a 7-Day Challenge that involved completing three surveys in seven days. If I did this, I would earn 10 bonus points plus the points I earned for answering the surveys. Always up for a challenge, I accepted.
Before looking for surveys, Opinion Outpost recommends completing your profile. You can do this anytime, though, and I wanted to jump right into the surveys. I had six options ranging from three points for “quick” 1-minute surveys to 20 points for 30-minute surveys.
I liked how each survey opportunity showed me how long it should take and what I could earn. It also stated the industry for the research, so I could pick and choose ones that interested me.
Pro tip
I suggest setting up a separate email account for surveys and frequently checking for updated survey invitations as they are first-come, first-served and can fill up fast.
Additional ways to earn
In addition to product surveys, some panel members can earn points for:
- Testing out products they get for free
- Giving their opinion on advertisements that haven’t aired yet
- Logging their daily routines over a certain time period
- Participating in location-based surveys about in-store experiences
- Answering surveys based on ads that you may have seen online
I didn’t have an opportunity to do any of these, but that’s likely because I’m a new member.
3. Complete your first survey
I decided to try one of the 5-point surveys on home and family. After answering a few questions, I didn’t qualify. I tried two more and still didn’t qualify. The screeners were basic, with questions mostly about demographics, but I never made it past this stage after three attempts.
I decided to go back and complete my profile to see if I’d get more options — and I did. So, it really is worth completing your profile first because Opinion Outpost uses the information you provide when you sign up to match you with surveys.
Note
Opinion Outpost occasionally runs sweepstakes where you can enter to win prizes by taking surveys.
4. Redeem your points
Most redemption options on Opinion Outpost have a minimum requirement ranging from 50 to 100 points or $5 to $10. The platform offers a wider variety of rewards than I’ve seen from some other survey sites, and you can even filter the rewards by the number of points you have or categories such as clothing and accessories, music and entertainment, and food and dining.
Here are some of the gift card options I was given:

How much can you earn with Opinion Outpost?
I want to be clear that you shouldn’t expect to pay your bills with Opinion Outpost earnings. The amount of money you earn on Opinion Outpost depends on how many paid online surveys you can complete and the number of points you make per survey.
Realistically, expect to earn an average of 10 points per survey, according to the platform. The longer an Opinion Outpost survey takes to complete, the more points it may award. More specialized surveys may also give you more points when you complete them. So, if you complete a 10-point survey in 16 minutes, you’d earn 0.625 points per minute or 37.5 points per hour. However, there’s no guarantee you’ll maintain this rate or qualify for more surveys.
This isn’t bad for surveys, which is why I see these as supplemental income and use them as fillers for other side hustles. In other words, surveys can be a good option when you have some downtime (maybe when you’re waiting on a DoorDash order to finish up or pet sitting). But because you won’t always qualify, I wouldn’t consider this a reliable source of cash.
Warning
You may pass the initial survey qualification and begin the survey, then find out that you do not qualify while answering more specific demographic information.
Maximizing your earnings with Opinion Outpost
There are several strategies I’ve learned to increase the points you earn on Opinion Outpost:
- Complete your profile: The more information you provide, the higher your chances of potentially qualifying for multiple surveys.
- Be consistent with your answers: Opinion Outpost looks for honesty and integrity in the answers provided, so the more consistent you are, the more likely you are to get other offers.
- Check your email regularly: Opinion Outpost sends notifications via email as soon as a survey is available. The more frequently you check your email, the higher your chances of getting survey opportunities.
- Log in to your account frequently: As a backup, you can log into your Opinion Outpost account to check for other opportunities.

How many points do I need to cash out on Opinion Outpost?
Most redemption options on Opinion Outpost require between 50 points and 100 points to cash out, equivalent to $5 to $10. You can cash out to Paypal or receive a gift card to Amazon, Apple, Target, and several other options.
Other side hustles to consider
Opinion Outpost is a legitimate survey platform, although its earnings can be low and qualifying for higher payouts isn’t easy. Plus, it’s quite popular with two million members, so the competition is fierce.
I recommend adding a couple of other great survey sites to your lineup to make money online.
Survey Junkie
Survey Junkie is a reputable survey company with 20 million members. Like Opinion Outpost, anyone can join (over 16) and attempt to qualify for surveys. According to Survey Junkie, its members can make up to $40 a month by taking three surveys per day, which is much better than many competitors.
If you’re comfortable sharing some of your browsing data, Survey Junkie also offers a Surf to Earn program that requires you to download a browser extension or mobile app that monitors your online behaviors to help companies with their marketing needs. Survey Junkie has a better reputation than Opinion Outpost overall and has paid far more to customers.

InboxDollars
InboxDollars is another option to consider in addition to or instead of Opinion Outpost. This digital rewards program launched in 2000 and offers members cash payments when they complete surveys, play games, and shop online. InboxDollars collaborates with well-known businesses to offer discounts, member-only deals, and other perks.
Its online surveys pay anywhere from $0.50 to $5, so the pay is likely on par with Opinion Outpost. But this platform has an edge over Opinion Outpost because it offers more earning opportunities, including cash back when shopping through its online portal.
