According to the Independent, sales of tapes were up more than 200% in the U.S. in the first quarter of 2025. Whether the trend is a sign of nostalgia, younger generations yearning for physical media, or a combination of both, cassettes are seeing a spike in value, and now is the time to sell if you have a solid stash and are looking for a simple way to put extra cash in your pocket.

If you were a big collector in the '90s, check your stash for these 11 cassettes that could be worth a small fortune.

Prince - 'The Versace Experience'

Estimated market value: $5,000

We'll kick off with one of the rarest and most valuable cassettes ever sold. In 1995, a cassette tape featuring several tracks from Prince's upcoming album "Gold" was given out to attendees at a Versace fashion show in Paris.

The collection was called "The Versace Experience," and Prince was going by "The Artist (Formerly Known as Prince)" at the time. The tapes were eventually rereleased 20+ years later, but if you happen to have a 1995 original, and only a few do, Discogs estimates the market value is around $5,000.

Eminem - 'Infinite'

Estimated market value: $2,500

Before the world knew him as Slim Shady, Eminem released his first, still relatively unknown album "Infinite." The rapper said the album only had a few dozen sales at the time, but those who did get their hands on the cassette could sell it for several thousand if they are willing to part with it.

One version recently went up with a $2,500 asking price on eBay, and was promptly sold, and ValueYourMusic puts the auction record at $5,000.

Weezer - 'Blue Album'

Estimated market value: $1,000

To this day, Weezer's Blue Album, which features hits like "Buddy Holly" and "Undone - The Sweater Song," may be the band's most loved. A sealed, first press version of the 1994 tape is currently attracting much attention on eBay with an asking price of nearly $1,000.

Used versions in good condition are worth around $50, based on recent sales.

Nas - 'Illmatic'

Estimated market value: $140

Nas' debut album "Illmatic," released in 1994, is considered by many to be one of the greatest hip-hop records ever made. Today, even well-used versions have sold for around $140 on resale sites like eBay.

The reported auction record for a factory-sealed cassette was $1,750 back in 2024.

Pearl Jam - 'Ten'

Estimated market value: $180

Pearl Jam's debut album "Ten" has some of their biggest songs to this day on it, like "Jeremy" and "Even Flow."

Though first pressings of the cassette have reportedly sold for close to $1,000 in the past, the going rate on eBay these days appears to top out at around $180, and that's for a sealed version of the 1991 tape.

Wu-Tang Clan - 'Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)'

Estimated market value: $80

Wu-Tang Clan's 1993 debut album is still hailed as one of the best rap albums of all time, and if you still have the cassette and kept it in relatively good condition, there's a lucrative resale market.

Even used versions regularly sell on eBay for about $80.

Alanis Morissette - 'Jagged Little Pill'

Estimated market value: $135

"Jagged Little Pill" is another quintessential album of the '90s, and hits like "You Oughta Know" have clearly stood the test of time. While most used versions of the cassette sell for between $10 and $20, one factory-sealed version of the 1995 classic, with promo stickers and all, recently sold on eBay for $135.

Jay-Z - 'Reasonable Doubt'

Estimated market value: $150

Debuts seem to be the name of the game when it comes to resale value, and Jay-Z's 1996 "Reasonable Doubt" is no different. Recently, several copies of the cassette sold for well over $100 on eBay, and ValueYourMusic puts the auction record for a sealed, never-used version at $550.

Nirvana - 'Nevermind'

Estimated market value: $100

Nirvana's "Nevermind" is considered a quintessential, or perhaps the quintessential, grunge album of the '90s with hits like "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and "Come As You Are."

Currently, the going rate for a cassette on eBay appears to be around $100 for a sealed version, though ValueYourMusic puts the record sale for one at $1,300 back in 2023.

The Notorious B.I.G. - 'Ready to Die'

Estimated market value: $55

While the going rate for a used tape of Notorious B.I.G.'s debut album has been around $55 on eBay lately, unused and sealed versions have sold for thousands. The 1994 record featured some of the Brooklyn rapper's biggest hits, like "Juicy" and "Big Poppa."

ValueYourMusic puts the record at $2,325 for a sealed tape sold in 2024.

Bottom line

Valuable cassette tapes from the '90s span genres, but the real money tends to be in debut albums of artists who would go on to be major stars, even more so if the debut was not widely released or you have a factory-sealed version. It is important to check the condition carefully before listing as unsealed or played copies typically sell for a fraction of mint prices.

Still, even if you don't have the big money-makers, selling vintage cassettes could be a simple way to get ahead financially, as even used versions could sell for upwards of $100 each.
