Workers who move into their 40s sometimes find it harder to land a job. Age discrimination may be illegal, but it still exists.

Fortunately, there are many companies that need workers badly, regardless of a person's age. If you are over 45 and looking for work to put extra cash in your pocket, here are some companies that are desperately hiring right now.

Amazon is almost always hiring. The retail giant offers many different types of roles, from customer service roles to driver and warehouse work. Some of these roles offer flexibility to suit your wants and needs.

CVS Health

Not only is CVS okay with hiring older workers, it is actively pursuing them.

The pharmacy chain has a Talent Is Ageless program that aims to find mature workers with "unique qualities that bring special value to our mission of helping people."

The company says its goal is to "recruit, hire, train, develop and promote the best people available, based solely upon job-related qualification."

Home Depot

If you are a longtime contractor or other tradesperson, Home Depot would likely be interested in your skill set.

The company is known for hiring older workers. This might be a good fit if you are a former contractor or someone else with expertise in home renovation. Home Depot also hires a lot of seasonal workers, giving you a chance to see if the company is the right fit for you.

Marriott

Marriott's Talent Solution program helps both current and prospective employees to "adapt to rapidly changing work environments" by offering them temporary and contingent roles.

In recent years, Macy's has made a commitment to creating training opportunities for employees from all generations, according to AARP.

As with companies like Amazon and Starbucks, you could likely find everything from full-time work to part-time work that offers a work-life balance. There is also a variety of positions available, from call center workers to working on the retail floor.

In addition, Macy's has a history of hiring employees during the fall in anticipation of the holiday season, making it a great time to try to get a job with the retailer.
