OUR VIEW

I’ve always used cashback apps to save money on my shopping habits, but Fluz takes things to a new level. Not only can I earn cash back shopping with apps like Rakuten, ‌but if I purchase gift cards through Fluz, I earn cash back on both the gift cards and the purchases when I go through another app.

I admit that using Fluz adds another step to the cashback process, and it can be frustrating if you forget to buy the gift card ahead of time. But when you remember, it’s a great way to fuel your savings, which is never a bad thing in today’s inflationary times.

Pros

Can stack rewards
Free to download and use
Many ways to redeem earnings

Cons

Requires an extra step before shopping

How we evaluate products

What is Fluz?

Fluz is a cashback app that works a little differently than your traditional cashback app because you don’t shop through the app of your favorite stores. Instead, you can purchase a gift card for your purchase amount on another site and earn cash back for the purchase that way.

Fluz is available on iOS and Android devices and is free to download and use. You can stack other cashback programs with Fluz and maximize your earnings, as well as pair it with promo codes and coupons. According to Fluz, its members have earned over $40 million in cash back.

How does Fluz work?

Some cashback apps and budgeting services provide cash back when you scan shopping receipts or purchase certain items, but you use Fluz by purchasing gift cards before spending anything.

Fluz sells gift card codes to many popular retailers. Here’s a partial list of partner retailers:

  • Adidas
  • Amazon
  • Burger King
  • Chipotle
  • CVS
  • Domino’s
  • Hulu
  • Netflix
  • Nike
  • Spotify
  • Starbucks
  • Walmart

You earn cash back for buying any of the available gift card codes through Fluz. Then, you can use the gift card code to make a purchase at a qualifying store in person or online.

Purchasing In-Store

Let’s say you’re eating at Chipotle and want to use Fluz. You would purchase a gift card on Fluz before heading to Chipotle. When checking out, you show the cashier the barcode on your phone which they can scan or enter manually.

Purchasing online

Now imagine you want to make an online purchase from Nike. You pick the items you want on the Nike website and add them to your cart. At checkout, you will enter your Fluz gift card number. If you haven’t yet purchased one, you should first head to Fluz and buy the gift card either for the exact amount or an amount higher than your total purchase.

You would earn cash back for buying the gift card code, and then you could use the gift card for your Nike purchase, entering the gift card code at checkout.

Stacking rewards

One of the best ways to maximize your earnings on Fluz is to use multiple rewards. For example, Fluz lets you use credit cards to buy gift cards through its app. This is effectively a way to double dip your rewards (also called stacking rewards) — because you can earn credit card rewards and cash back through Fluz at the same time.

You can also stack rewards with traditional cashback apps, such as Rakuten or Capital One Shopping. To do this, you’d shop through your chosen app, like Rakuten, and pay with your Fluz gift card when you check out. If you bought the gift card with a cashback credit card, you triple-dipped your rewards.

Referrals

You can also turn Fluz into a side gig, as the company states on its website, simply by referring people to the app. For each person you refer to Fluz who signs up, you each earn $5. You also earn royalties on the cash back they earn — and on the referrals they bring.

You can earn royalties on up to five degrees of connection (representing how many people are between you and the connection) or 62 connections total. For example, if I invite you and you invite Levi and Levi invites Gene, there are three degrees of connection between Gene and I.

According to Fluz, you can expect around $0.50 monthly for each person in your network, but earnings vary widely based on users’ activity.

Who can use Fluz?

Anyone 18 or older who has a compatible smartphone and an eligible method of payment can use Fluz. You can download the Fluz app on iOS and Android devices through the App Store or Google Play, which means Apple iPhones, Samsung Galaxy phones, and Google Pixel phones should all be compatible.

To use Fluz, you need to be able to buy digital gift cards through the Fluz app. So, you’ll need to link an eligible method of payment, which would typically be a credit or debit card. You can also link a bank account, PayPal account, or Apple Pay account.

Fluz could be a good fit for anyone who wants to earn cash back on purchases they’re already making or anyone with a large social media following. I think it’s useful for people who like to shop online, but I wish you didn’t have to add an extra step to your shopping routine — which would be buying a gift card through Fluz and then using that gift card to make your online purchase. However, the potential rewards could be worth that extra step.

How much cash back can you earn with Fluz?

Learning how to make money with Fluz is fairly simple. If you’re ready to make a purchase with a Fluz retail partner, buy a gift card from Fluz and then use that gift card to make your purchase. You’ll earn cash back from Fluz, as well as credit card rewards (if you used a rewards card) when buying the gift card.

Overall, you can’t expect to get rich using this method. Instead, think of it as a way to effectively get a discount on purchases you’re already making. For example, you might earn 3% cash back for buying a $100 Uber Eats gift card — which would be $3. It’s not much, but it’s better than nothing and pretty easy.

How to withdraw money from Fluz

Each time you purchase a gift card on Fluz, you earn cash back. Fluz offers multiple ways to redeem these earnings, including:

  • Bank account deposit
  • PayPal transfer
  • Venmo transfer
  • Transfer to a virtual debit card

Keep in mind that you’ll need first to hit the payout threshold of $15 before you can access your cash back. This is a one-time requirement.

You can also use your earnings to purchase more gift cards. I consider that another way to save since I don’t have to take more cash out of my bank account to buy the gift card that will again reward me with a small percentage back.

Fluz members can also earn cash back when others in their network purchase gift card codes through Fluz.

How does Fluz make money?

Fluz gets paid by retailers and merchants whenever it sends a customer their way. This means there’s no cost for Fluz users to sign up or use the Fluz app.

Other money apps to consider

Fluz's approach to earning cash back offers a lot of potential, but it might not be right for everyone. For other cashback options, consider Ibotta and MyPoints.

Ibotta is a cashback app that rewards you for online and in-store purchases. This could include buying groceries, ordering food, or shopping at loads of online retailers. Ibotta typically rewards you for different actions, including submitting shopping receipts, buying gift cards, and linking loyalty accounts to your Ibotta account. Choose this over Fluz if you’d prefer more flexibility in how you earn points.

MyPoints is an app that rewards you for shopping at online stores and completing online surveys. MyPoints works with thousands of retailers to offer different sales, coupons, and promotions. As you use MyPoints while shopping, you’ll earn rewards points on your purchases that can be redeemed for gift cards or transfers to a PayPal account. This is probably the better choice if you want to avoid the hassle of pre-buying gift cards.

Bottom line

If you’re looking for more ways to save money when shopping or want another side hustle, Fluz makes it pretty easy to start earning. Whether you make money buying gift cards or you create a robust referral network and earn from your network’s spending, this is an exciting app. I especially recommend it for pairing with another cash back rewards app.
