I've Tried Dozens of Sam's Club's Bakery Goods and This Is My Favorite

Sure, the rotisserie chicken is great, but you can unlock the true value of your Sam’s Club membership in the bakery aisle. From breads to buns to bar cakes, you’re bound to find a sweet or savory baked good that suits your tastes. While you can get many of these items in bulk to get a great deal, you don’t have to buy the same huge quantities at Sam’s Club that you do at other membership warehouses.

While it’s hard to pick favorites, here are some of the Sam’s Club bakery items that frequently find their way onto my shopping list.

Costco may have made these famous, but the Sam’s Club versions are just as good. Moreover, they offer more buying choices in flavor and quantity. Sam’s offers cinnamon crunch and a holiday variety pack with pumpkin, apple pie, and cranberry orange flavors.

At Sam’s, you’re not locked into buying 12 giant muffins as you are with Costco; you can buy a six- or a nine-pack as well.

Not to be confused with the kiddie birthday cakes Sam’s Club offers, these gourmet cupcakes are a cut above. This variety pack comes with lemon, strawberry, cookies ‘n’ cream, and chocolate flavors (two of each) that are beautifully decorated.

Price: $18.98

This may not be the most authentic tres leches cake in the world, but it is both gorgeous and delicious. The frosting is fluffy, and the fruit filling is sweet without being overwhelming. Make sure you get a slice with one of the chocolate wafers on top.

Price: $4.48 per 8 ct.

If you want bread that takes your sandwich up a notch, these ciabatta rolls are where it’s at. Chewier than normal sandwich bread, these rolls are both heartier and tastier. They also hold up to sauces much better, helping you avoid that gummy last bite and messy fingers.

These cookies have an amazing chocolate-to-cookie ratio (leaning heavily on the chocolate, of course) that you’ll have a hard time finding in other cookies, many of which tend to skimp on the chocolate. Big, soft, and oh-so-gooey when they’re warm, these cookies do not disappoint. Bring a napkin, or plan on licking your fingers.

Is it a muffin or a cinnamon roll? Who cares — it’s delicious!

These delectable pastries are made with real butter, and they don’t skimp on the cream cheese icing. It’s a little odd that they’re baked in muffin tins, but when they’re this good, we’ll overlook that quirk. Redditor No-Canary-6639 agrees: “The cinnamon rolls are honestly the best I have ever had. My wife and I buy them every time we go.”

This artisan bread is addictive. It may look pretty humble on its own, but toast a slice and slather it with butter, and you’ve got yourself either a light dessert or a most epic snack. It’s baked on a stone, just like European bakeries do, and is the perfect flavor for late-fall/winter noshing.

My favorite way to eat these is to make a French dip sandwich out of them. Crusty on the outside and chewy on the inside, they’re perfect for soaking up every last bit of au jus available. These make great meatball subs, too, for the same reasons.

Full disclosure: Pecan is one of the few flavors of pie I don’t care for, and I’m a pie snob, so I’ve tried most of them.

However, the Reddit jury is in on this one. Sam’s Club’s pecan pie is widely regarded as one of the best flavors they offer. Several reviews on Sam’s website note that it tastes like a homemade pecan pie, so you can enjoy Thanksgiving dessert vibes all year long.

This cake is the stuff of legend and blows the other Sam’s Club bakery items out of the water. Layers of chocolate and cream cheese mousse alternate with a not-too-dense chocolate sponge and the whole thing is artfully topped with a layer of chocolate ganache.
