Capital One Venture vs. Capital One VentureOne
Capital One is one of my favorite credit card issuers. As a cardholder of the Venture X and the VentureOne (and a former cardholder of the Venture), I have a biased opinion on which cards are worth their weight in plastic. Here’s how the two stack up.

When to go with the Capital One Venture Rewards
The Capital One Venture might be the better option if:
- You want to enroll in Global Entry or TSA PreCheck
- You want a higher earning potential at the cost of an annual fee
- You can meet the spending requirement for the welcome offer
Better earning potential
The Venture Rewards Card earns 2 miles per dollar on every purchase, every day, 5 miles per dollar on hotels, vacation rentals and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel and 5 miles per dollar on Capital One Entertainment purchases through 12/31/25; the VentureOne Rewards Card earns 1.25 miles per dollar on every purchase, every day and 5 miles per dollar on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel.
This might not seem like a huge difference, but when you’re using your card for day-to-day purchases, this can quickly add up. I prefer earning as much as possible, so I’d recommend the Venture or Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card over the VentureOne.
Travel benefits
Although you’re paying an annual fee, you are getting benefits with the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card that can make it worthwhile. Cardholders receive up to $120 as a statement credit for the application fee for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck. I recommend Global Entry more frequently than any other program. I used my old Venture Card to cover my enrollment almost five years ago and will use my Venture X to pay for my renewal.
In addition, you’ll get Hertz Five Star status, which gives you complimentary upgrades (as available) and bonus points on bookings. If you book a stay at a Lifestyle Collection property through Capital One Travel, you’ll receive a $50 experience credit and room upgrades as available.
Although minor, these perks elevate your travel experience and make Venture a better option for frequent travelers.
When to go with the Capital One VentureOne
The Capital One VentureOne might be the better option if:
- You want to take advantage of an 0% intro APR period for purchases or balance transfers
- You don’t want to pay an annual fee
No Annual fee
The Capital One Venture Rewards carries an annual fee of $95. The VentureOne Card, however, has a $0 annual fee for as long as you have it. If you have several cards with annual fees, you know how quickly they can add up.
Introductory APR
The Capital One VentureOne Rewards boasts a 0% intro APR on purchases for the first 15 months of the new account. After that, the APR is 19.74% - 29.74% (Variable). There’s also a 0% APR for balance transfers for 15 months (then 19.74% - 29.74% (Variable)). Balance transfer fee applies.
On the other hand, the Capital One Venture Rewards Card doesn’t offer an introductory APR for purchases or balance transfers. Ideally, you won’t want to carry a balance on the Venture, as you can quickly accumulate interest. If you are planning a large purchase or have a high-interest balance on another card, you may prefer the VentureOne.
A closer look at the welcome bonuses
With the Capital One Venture Rewards Card, you can earn 75,000 bonus miles once you spend $4,000 on purchases within 3 months from account opening. On the other hand, the Capital One VentureOne Rewards will earn a bonus of 20,000 miles once you spend $500 on purchases within 3 months from account opening. The VentureOne Rewards Card offers substantially less value but provides a much more attainable spending requirement.
Consider alternative options
The Venture and VentureOne are both issued by Capital One, meaning their benefits and rewards structure are similar. However, there are some places where both cards fall flat, and you might want to consider cards from other issuers to fix these issues.
Both cards require excellent credit, which can be prohibitive for many consumers, especially those who might be in the market for a no-annual-fee option. Plus, apart from Capital One Travel bookings, there aren’t any ways to maximize your earnings or bonus categories you can take advantage of.
These cards are designed to be excellent options for everyday expenses. However, if you want to earn more miles per dollar in select categories, pair your Venture or VentureOne with a card from another issuer. I love pairing my Venture X with my Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card and various hotel and airline co-branded cards. This ensures that I’m earning at least two and up to six or more points per dollar I spend.
FAQs
Can you use Capital One Venture miles on any airline?
You can transfer your Capital One Venture miles to a select number of airlines but can use them to book travel on almost any airline through Capital One Travel. If you don’t see your favorite airline in the travel portal, you can always pay for your flight using your card and redeem your miles as a statement credit for that purchase.
How much are Capital One miles worth?
Capital One miles can be worth anywhere from 0.5 to 2 cents or more, depending on the redemption method. Utilizing transfer partners is the best way to get outsized value from your points.
Do Capital One Venture Card miles expire?
Your miles will never expire as long as your Capital One Venture account is open and in good standing.
Can you combine Capital One miles?
Yes, you can combine Capital One miles between several cards. I have the Venture X and the VentureOne and can combine the miles earned between both cards into one account.
Bottom line
If you like the idea of quick mileage accrual and easy redemptions, the Venture lineup has an option for you. The best option between these cards will depend on how much you’re willing to spend and which benefits you’ll use.
Before applying, analyze your spending habits, travel goals, financial situation, and current points and miles strategy. Capital One is one of my favorite issuers for a reason — whether you apply for the Venture Rewards or VentureOne Card, you’ll get plenty of benefits and great customer service.
