QuoteWizard is an insurance lead generator owned by LendingTree. Users can use the site's comparison tools to get leads from insurance providers like Allstate, State Farm, and Nationwide, among others.

QuoteWizard doesn't actually provide you with any quotes. Instead, after you provide your information, it'll simply notify you of which option is best. To actually get a quote, you'll need to click through to that insurance company's website and submit additional information for that insurer.

We found the user experience to be relatively straightforward and convenient, and other users of the site report a generally positive experience overall. As is true of most rate-shopping marketplaces, using QuoteWizard can result in a lot of spam. You can expect the calls and emails to start as soon as you complete your quote request.

QuoteWizard pros and cons

Pros
  • Straightforward form
  • Quick results
  • Non-auto insurance comparisons available
Cons
  • Not an insurance company
  • Expect a lot of spam
  • No actual quotes — just leads

How much does QuoteWizard cost?

QuoteWizard itself doesn't cost anything. It's not an insurance company, it's a marketplace. Based on information you provide, the site connects you with insurance agents who can then provide an actual quote.

Keep in mind that auto insurance quotes can vary quite a bit based on your driving profile and where you live. Once you start receiving offers, you'll be able to compare quotes and pick the one that's best for you.

For a general frame of reference, though, take a look at these national averages for full-coverage and liability-insurance across different driver types:

Driver type National average liability-only monthly premium National average full coverage monthly premium
Clean driving record $105 $192
Speeding ticket on driving record $141 $265
At-fault accident on driving record $146 $274
DUI on driving record $166 $313
Teen driver $194 $364
Senior driver $85 $160

How QuoteWizard works

As we mentioned earlier, QuoteWizard isn't an insurance provider — it's an insurance lead generator that connects consumers with insurance agents.

If you aren't sure where to start on your auto insurance comparison journey, lead generators can take the guesswork out of which company may set you up to save the most on your car insurance. However, usinglead generators can also result in more spam and send you down a quote-retrieving rabbit hole.

With QuoteWizard, you'll start by providing the company with some personal basic information, such as your zip code, marital status, date of birth, and address.

Next up, you'll need to provide information about the car you want to insure, including its make, model, and year. You'll also need to provide info about your current coverage and driving history.

Once QuoteWizard has this info, it'll start gathering the best quotes from insurers in your area.

Signing up through QuoteWizard took only a few minutes. I was pleased with how simple the questions were and how fast they provided matches. However, I was matched to two actual car insurance companies and two car insurance lead generators — which I found a bit frustrating since Quotewizard itself is a lead generator.

QuoteWizard didn't show my car insurance quotes on their website, but instead, I had to click through to their partner's site to finish my quote. For Allstate, this was easy since all of the info I input into QuoteWizard carried over, and I just had to answer a few more clarifying questions. For my other recommended insurance company, Root, I had to start the process all over to request a quote.

Besides the obvious convenience associated with using a platform like QuoteWizard, the company also does a great job providing educational resources for drivers on how to get lower car insurance rates, with detailed charts about average insurance costs and the cheapest insurance companies to work with.

The company's extensive online literature can also help drivers determine whether they need comprehensive car insurance or full coverage car insurance.

QuoteWizard vs. competitors

It's tough to compare insurance marketplaces and lead generators based on the deals they can ultimately get you. Every user's driver profile and the insurers that any given platform connects them with all impact quoted rates, so there's too much variation to make a meaningful comparison.

When choosing a marketplace, then, you'll want to look at user experience. Some alternatives to QuoteWizard include The Zebra and Insurify.

QuoteWizardvs. The Zebra

The Zebra is a popular insurance marketplace that receives pretty positive reviews from its users. On Trustpilot the site earns 4.7 out of 5 stars based on more than 1,200 reviews, and it gets an A- from the Better Business Bureau. As you'll see below, QuoteWizard outperforms The Zebra on these metrics, but just ever so slightly.

QuoteWizard vs. Insurify

Insurify is also an insurance marketplace, not an insurer. Insurify claims to partner with over 100 insurance providers to source quotes, and has a strong record of positive customer reviews, scoring an A- with the Better Business Bureau and 4.8 out of 5 stars on Trustpilot.

You'll get some follow-up communication from Insurify, but you can opt out, and Insurify insists it's a no-spam platform.

What customers are saying

Company ratings:

  • BBB: A+
  • Trustpilot: 4.7/5 stars

Nobody likes shopping for insurance. Hunting down the best deal is time-consuming and filled with spammy calls and junk mail at almost every turn. So when an insurance marketplace or lead generator is rated anywhere close to well by its users, that's generally a pretty good sign.

QuoteWizard gets impressive ratings, earning an A+ from the Better Business Bureau, and 4.7 out of 5 stars on consumer review site Trustpilot. Across nearly 600 reviews, 86% of Trustpilot users gave the site a five-star rating, reporting generally positive experiences with agents and deals found through the site.

Bottom line

The number one thing I hate about shopping for car insurance is the amount of spam that results from it. Even if you contact car insurance companies directly, you can expect follow up emails and phone calls until you put a stop to it. QuoteWizard is no different in that aspect.

The primary downside is that it doesn't seamlessly connect with all of its partners. For example, my information only carried over to Allstate, not Root.

Regardless of whether you're using a marketplace or contacting insurers yourself, it's good to know who some of the best car insurance companies are so you know who to get quotes from.
