I’m old enough to recall the days when Netflix meant selecting a movie and having the company send you a DVD through snail mail. I’m extremely glad Netflix evolved into the streaming subscription model of today, but it can be costly.

You may be surprised to learn that many credit cards offer valuable rewards for spending on Netflix as well as other streaming and entertainment subscriptions. This includes the Wells Fargo Active Cash® Card(Rates and fees), Bank of America® Customized Cash Rewards credit card, and Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express.

I probably wouldn’t apply for a new card only for the Netflix rewards, but each of the cards included here offers a number of other benefits.

If you want a simple rewards card that rewards you for your spending, no matter what category, I like the Wells Fargo Active Cash Card. You earn rewards on streaming and other everyday purchases.

Getting a no annual fee credit card is a smart way to earn without increasing spending. With the Active Cash, you have a $0 annual fee and you can earn unlimited 2% cash rewards on purchases, regardless of the category.

That means you can easily earn 2% cash rewards on streaming services.

While I don’t personally have this card, I definitely appreciate a card with a simple rewards structure. If you don’t want to manage different cards or rotating categories and just want to earn a nice cash-back rate, you probably can’t go wrong with this one.

An extra-nice feature is that while some of the other cards included here have exceptions to which streaming platforms earn elevated rewards, you shouldn’t run into that problem with the Wells Fargo Active Cash.

I also find the Bank of America Customized Cash Rewards card to be a good option because it lets you choose how you earn cash back. You can earn 3% cash back in the category of your choice and 2% cash back at grocery stores and wholesale clubs (up to $2,500 in combined choice category/grocery store/wholesale club quarterly purchases) and 1% on all other purchases.

The card website doesn’t specify which streaming services work, but the following are listed within the “online shopping” category:

  • Cable TV
  • Internet
  • Streaming services

That means, if you choose online shopping as your elevated cash back category, you can expect to earn elevated cash back not only on your cable and internet spending, but on any number of streaming service subscriptions.

You also will get more out of the Bank of America Customized Cash Rewards card if you’re also a Bank of America banking customer. The Bank of America Preferred Rewards program lets you stack benefits so that if you meet certain balance requirements, you can earn 25%-75% more in credit card rewards.

The Amex Blue Cash Preferred Card is an excellent card if you're looking to earn cash back on your everyday purchases, including select U.S. streaming services. You can earn 6% cash back at U.S. supermarkets (for first $6,000 per year, after that 1%) and on select U.S. streaming services, 3% cash back at U.S. gas stations and on eligible transit, and 1% cash back on other eligible purchases. Cash back is received in the form of Reward Dollars that can be redeemed as a statement credit.

With a wide array of expenses that qualify for earning, this is a strong contender for one of the best cash back credit cards out there. That 6% is higher than virtually any other ongoing rewards rate, so U.S. supermarkets and select U.S. streaming services can bring you a hefty sum of extra cash.

I’m seriously considering adding this card to my wallet for this elevated rewards opportunity in both U.S. supermarkets and select U.S. streaming services. In particular, with kids in the house, a variety of streaming options is great, and why not earn higher rewards rates when spending on them?

(I also did the math on the U.S. supermarket spending, and I know we’d easily earn the maximum $360 per year on bonus U.S. supermarket rewards, which far outweighs the annual fee that starts after your first year.)

While the card does come with a $0 intro annual fee for the first year, $95 per year thereafter, the cost can be worth it for the perks you get. This includes a generous welcome offer — new cardmembers can earn a $250 statement credit after spending $3,000 on eligible purchases in the first 6 months.

Plus, if you’re a Netflix fan, chances are good that you also get Disney+, and with this American Express card, you’re eligible for a $7 monthly statement credit for a Disney bundle worth at least $9.99/month.

I like the Citi Custom Cash® Card for its $0 annual fee and no-stress way of offering rewards.

With some rewards cards, you have to select the category in which you want to earn the higher rewards rate, and if you forget to do so or your spending doesn’t match up with your expectations, you could lose out. I like not having to change my earning categories each month, so while I don’t have this card, I’d definitely consider it for how easy the rewards program is.

The Citi Custom Cash card automatically rewards you by letting you earn 5% cash back in your top eligible spending category each billing cycle (up to the first $500 spent, then 1% cash back), plus unlimited 1% cash back on all other purchases; plus, as a special travel offer, earn an additional 4% cash back on hotels, car rentals, and attractions booked on Citi Travel℠ portal through 6/30/2026.

An additional benefit of this credit card is that you can earn $200 in cash back after you spend $1500 on purchases in the first 6 months of account opening. This bonus offer will be fulfilled as 20,000 ThankYou® points, which can be redeemed for $200 cash back.

The Capital One Savor Cash Rewards Credit Card is a credit card that entertainment lovers, including Netflix subscribers, would enjoy having. I like this one because of the wide range of entertainment-related rewards you can earn, whether you’re staying at home or venturing out to see the world.

You can earn 3% cash back at grocery stores (excluding superstores like Walmart® and Target®), on dining, entertainment and popular streaming services; 5% back on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel (terms apply); 8% cash back on Capital One Entertainment purchases; and 1% cash back on all other purchases.

You can also earn a limited-time $250 cash bonus after you spend $500 on purchases within the first 3 months from account opening.

The best part is that this card has a $0 annual fee, so you don’t have to calculate if the cashback rewards outweigh the annual cost.

The U.S. Bank Cash+® Visa Signature® Card helps cardholders earn cash back in bonus categories that they get to choose from. I like this card, and it’s similar to the Bank of America Customized Cash Rewards card, but the potential rewards earning is higher.

You earn 5% cash back on two categories you choose (up to $2,000 in combined eligible purchases each quarter) and on prepaid air, hotel and car reservations booked directly in the Rewards Center; 2% cash back on one everyday category, like gas stations/EV charging stations, grocery stores, or restaurants; and 1% cash back on all other eligible purchases. Keep in mind that enrollment is required to earn elevated rewards on the categories you choose.

If you’re a Netflix subscriber, you can choose to earn cash back on streaming services plus one other category that you spend the most on. What really makes this rewards program stand out to me is that you choose not one, but two categories to earn the higher 5% back. And there are a lot to choose from, including cell phone providers, fast food, gyms and fitness centers, and many more.

The Chase Sapphire Preferred is one of the best travel credit cards, but it can also help earn valuable rewards on your Netflix subscription. You receive a lot of travel perks like travel insurance as well as higher earning rates on travel-related expenses (that’s why it’s one of my favorite rewards credit cards). Now I just need to switch all of our streaming subscriptions to the Chase Sapphire Preferred, because I’d forgotten it was an elevated rewards category.

With this card, you can earn 5X points on travel purchased through Chase Travel℠; 3X points on dining, select streaming services, and online groceries; 2X points on all other travel purchases, and 1X points on all other purchases.

You can also boost your earnings soon after qualifying for the card. You can earn 60,000 bonus points after $4,000 in purchases in your first 3 months from account opening (that's worth $750 when redeemed through Chase Travel). Plus, get up to $300 in statement credits on Chase Travel purchases within your first year. This can help you offset the $95 annual fee.

Note that unlike most of the cards on this list, the Chase Sapphire Preferred doesn’t have an introductory 0% APR, so it’s not good for a balance transfer.

The Capital One Venture Rewards is an ideal card for earning travel rewards on everyday expenses, including streaming services. How much does Netflix cost?

Netflix has three different plans to choose from, ranging in price from $6.99 to $22.99 per month. As you’d expect, you get a more convenient and more valuable experience by paying more.

These plans are:

Plan Monthly Cost Features
Netflix Standard with ads $6.99
  • Comes with ads
  • Access to most (not all) movies and TV shows
  • Unlimited mobile games
  • Access on two devices at a time
  • Downloads on two supported devices
  • Full HD viewing quality
Netflix Standard $15.49
  • Unlimited access to ad-free movies, TV shows, and mobile games
  • Access on two devices at a time
  • Downloads on two devices at a time
  • Full HD viewing quality
  • Option to add one member outside your household (at $7.99/month)
Netflix Premium $22.99
  • Unlimited access to ad-free movies, TV shows, and mobile games
  • Access on four devices at a time
  • Download on six devices at a time
  • Offers 4K ultra HD + HDR
  • Option to add up to two members outside your household (at $7.99/month)

Where did Netflix Basic go?
Netflix used to offer the Basic plan in the U.S. at a cost of $9.99 per month. However, the Basic plan is no longer available for new or rejoining members.

1. Netflix Standard with ads plan

The Netflix Standard with ads plan costs $6.99 per month. This tier comes with ads and gives you access to most movies and TV shows on Netflix, plus unlimited mobile games. As a subscriber at this level, I can report that the ads aren’t a huge annoyance, but it’s a real downer when you discover a show you love isn’t available with this plan.

Not everything is available
The Standard with ads plan doesn't include certain movies and TV shows. Reports show that movies including Oblivion, Steve Jobs, and Rambo and shows including Peaky Blinders, House of Cards, and New Girl are missing from this plan.

2. Netflix Standard plan

The Netflix Standard plan costs $15.49 per month. This mid-tier subscription option will get you a few more perks, and if you really hate watching ads, this is the option for you.

With the Standard plan, you get access to all movies and TV shows available for U.S. audiences. You can stream this content in full HD on up to two devices at the same time.

This plan also allows you to download movies and TV shows on two devices, making it a great plan for two people sharing a home.

3. Netflix Premium plan

The highest-tier Netflix subscription plan will cost you $22.99 a month. As a Premium subscriber, you will have access to full HD and ultra HD content on up to four supported devices simultaneously.

You can also download content on up to six devices. This plan is excellent for families or groups of roommates looking to split a subscription plan to save money.

FAQs

Do any credit cards offer Netflix discounts?

There are several credit cards that offer rewards or cash back on streaming services, including Netflix. However, these are not direct discounts on the Netflix subscription price, but rather a way to earn rewards or cash back based on your spending on streaming services. For example, The Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express helps you earn 6% cash back at U.S. supermarkets (for first $6,000 per year, after that 1%) and on select U.S. streaming services.

What credit cards does Netflix take?

Netflix accepts several types of credit and debit cards for payment. These include Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover.

Bottom line

If you're a Netflix enthusiast looking to get more out of your subscription payments, one of these options might be the right credit card to help you earn rewards points or cash back:

There are quite a few solid rewards cards that pay a higher rewards rate on streaming services like Netflix. I probably wouldn’t select a card based solely on streaming rewards, but you’ll get a lot of value from any of these cards if you pick one that matches your other spending habits.
