Wedbush analysts Matt Bryson and Antoine Legault flagged a supply signal in Nvidia Corp.'s (NASDAQ:NVDA) chip business that they said they have not observed since the Ampere and Hopper accelerator generations.

Grace Blackwell systems are reportedly getting harder to source late in the product cycle, a pattern that suggests demand is running ahead of what analysts have modeled. Companies that lock in supply ahead of competitors are often exhibiting hidden signs of financial stability, and Nvidia's position heading into its August 26 earnings report reflects exactly that.

Availability issues this late in a cycle signal demand above estimates

Wedbush wrote that they "do not recall availability issues this late in an NVDA accelerator cycle since Ampere/Hopper," a result that they believe suggests demand is lifting at a faster pace than expected. Grace Blackwell GB300 and B300 accelerators are reportedly becoming harder for customers to source.

Supply typically meets demand as a product cycle matures. The fact that these systems remain constrained months after launch signals that customer orders are outpacing production capacity, and your assessment of Nvidia's near-term growth trajectory may need to account for that mismatch.

DRAM and HBM memory are the real bottleneck in the supply chain

Memory now accounts for roughly 29% of Nvidia system costs, well above the company's preferred 20% threshold, Wedbush noted in a July 30 client note, Yahoo Finance reported via Barchart. Memory pricing has jumped approximately 70% and may climb further as the year progresses, driven by AI data center demand absorbing available manufacturing capacity.

The constraint is industry-wide and not unique to Nvidia. Building AI systems requires enormous quantities of high-bandwidth memory, and every major chipmaker competes for the same limited supply from manufacturers like SK Hynix, Samsung, and Micron.

Nvidia locked in 2026 supply and likely 2027 supply ahead of rivals

Wedbush argued that Nvidia is "the best situated of the entire technology ecosystem in terms of current supply chain positioning." The firm cited several specific advantages.

  • Nvidia committed more capital than any competitor to secure DRAM and HBM supply for 2026.
  • The company has likely locked in 2027 supply commitments as well.
  • CFO Colette Kress disclosed approximately $124 billion in outstanding purchase commitments at the Bank of America 2026 Global Technology Conference.

Locking in supply years ahead limits competitors' ability to access the same memory components at comparable prices, giving Nvidia a structural advantage that extends beyond chip design.

Rising memory costs already shaped Nvidia's Vera Rubin platform design

Wedbush noted that Nvidia cut the memory capacity of its upcoming Vera Rubin platform, reducing the Vera CPU memory from 192GB to 96GB and total rack memory from roughly 55TB to about 28TB. The 20.7TB of HBM4 memory attached to the GPUs remained unchanged.

The reduction suggests Nvidia is prioritizing HBM critical for AI workloads while scaling back elsewhere to manage supply constraints. Product design changes driven by component availability may not be visible to most investors, but they directly affect system pricing and margin structure.

Nvidia heads into August 26 with $91 billion revenue guidance

Nvidia guided for fiscal second-quarter 2027 revenue of approximately $91 billion, plus or minus 2%, when it reported first-quarter results on May 20, 2026. The midpoint implies roughly 95% year-over-year growth and about 12% sequential growth from the first quarter's $81.6 billion.

Wedbush expects Nvidia to exceed that guidance again, with supply rather than demand being the limiting factor. The distinction matters for your risk assessment. A supply-capped beat means revenue was held back by what Nvidia could ship, not by what customers wanted to buy.

Wall Street remains overwhelmingly bullish on Nvidia

Wedbush holds an Outperform rating on NVDA with a $330 price target. The broader analyst consensus shows 49 analysts recommending a Strong Buy, 10 a Buy, two a Hold, and one a Strong Sell, according to StockAnalysis. The average price target of $304.73 implies roughly 40% upside from Nvidia's close near $217 on August 22, 2026.

The street-high target of $500 implies potential upside of more than 130% from recent levels. Nvidia's forward price-to-earnings ratio stood near 21 times as of late July 2026, below both its sector average and its own historical multiple.

Risks for investors banking on a supply-constrained beat

Supply constraints could ease faster than expected, removing the scarcity premium that currently supports pricing power. Memory costs may also compress Nvidia's margins even when revenue grows, and the $124 billion in purchase commitments represents significant forward financial commitments.

Competitive pressure from AMD, custom chips developed by Google and Amazon, and rising memory costs all remain real factors. You may want to size any position with the understanding that a supply-capped environment creates a different risk profile than a pure demand-driven growth story.

Bottom line

Wedbush's observation that Blackwell availability is tighter than anything seen since Ampere and Hopper suggests Nvidia's upcoming Q2 report could exceed guidance for the sixth consecutive quarter. The company locked in memory supply ahead of competitors and holds $124 billion in purchase commitments, positioning it to deliver even when the broader supply chain remains constrained.

Nvidia's earnings on August 26 and the supply dynamics behind them are exactly the kind of developments that separate casual holders from informed ones, and having must-have investing apps on your phone will keep you informed on the distinction. A supply-capped beat carries different implications than a demand-driven one, and your portfolio response may depend on which kind of growth story you are comfortable holding.
