Meta Platforms (NASDAQ: META) shares traded at $747.72 in Monday afternoon trading, up $29.05, or 4.04%, from the previous close of $718.67. A single-session rally of that size can shift where you stand financially if Meta makes up a meaningful slice of your portfolio. The move came as market reports pointed to analyst support, AI-related enthusiasm around Muse, and positioning ahead of the company's expected Q3 report later in October.

Session move
META opened at $728.51 and pushed as high as $752.24 after holding above the session low of $727.64. The stock was well above Friday's close of $718.67, while broader market gauges were mixed around the session.
The intraday range also showed demand after the open. Shares remained closer to the high than the low in Monday afternoon trading.
Analyst support
Cantor Fitzgerald maintained an Overweight rating on Meta on Monday while cutting its price target to $840 from $860. Overweight means the firm expects the stock to perform better than its benchmark or peer group.
The reduced target still sat above the stock's Monday afternoon price. The note kept attention on Meta's long-term growth case heading into earnings, while a TipRanks report Monday also flagged bullish sentiment toward communication services names, including Meta.
Muse AI traction
Meta's Muse personal AI agent remained central to the stock story. An AI agent is software designed to complete tasks or answer requests with limited prompts.
The product reached 5 million downloads within 22 days of its Sept. 8 launch, according to market reports, giving investors another data point for Meta's consumer AI efforts.
Engagement questions
Fresh app data showed early engagement, with more than 30% of Muse users returning seven days after their first visit. Retention is the share of users who come back to an app after a set period.
Venture capitalist Deedy Das cited Sensor Tower data showing Muse's 14-day retention rate at 22%, trailing ChatGPT over the same period. Sensor Tower estimated Muse drew 2.8 million global downloads in its first two weeks, compared with 3.7 million for ChatGPT in its first two weeks.
TikTok ad move
Meta recently stopped accepting ByteDance ads across Facebook, Instagram, and other platforms in seven countries. The restriction also applies to some third-party campaigns that direct users to TikTok and other ByteDance-owned properties in those markets.
The move adds a competitive angle to the stock's AI-driven rally. It also keeps the focus on Meta's core advertising business, which remains the company's main profit engine.
Earnings test
Meta's Q3 report is expected later this month, and investors are watching whether AI spending is translating into stronger monetization. Monetization means turning user activity and products into revenue.
Meta's Q2 revenue rose 28% to $60.80 billion, supported by 27% advertising revenue growth. The company also expects 2026 capital expenditures, including principal payments on finance leases, of $130 billion to $145 billion, a spending plan that keeps free cash flow in focus.
Free cash flow is the cash left after a company covers operations and major investments. Reality Labs losses and legal expenses are also part of the earnings debate heading into the report.
Bottom line
Meta's Monday rally reflects a stock getting support from analysts, early Muse AI data, and pre-earnings positioning. That combination has made it one of the names retail traders are watching as they start investing ahead of a packed earnings calendar. The next test is whether the company can show that heavy AI investment is strengthening its advertising business while controlling pressure from infrastructure spending.
