Macy’s to Close 66 Stores in 2025 (Is Yours Still Open?)

Department stores thrive from a booming middle class that can afford to go shopping, but economic stress has customers spending less to focus on saving more for everyday essentials. As a result, the shifting retail landscape has many department stores closing their doors to avoid bankruptcy, and Macy's is the latest legacy retailer to announce closures.

In January, Macy's confirmed that 66 locations would be shutting down this year. Many of these closures were scheduled for the first quarter, but for some lucky customers, there are still a few locations open. See if your local Macy's is slated for shutdown — and which stores have already closed.

• 459 Prospect Ave. W.

Shoppers who enjoy the Macy's location in West Orange will have to travel further to shop in person once this location closes. Nearby, there are three stores in Wayne.

• 88-01 Queens Blvd.

The location in Elmhurst is a Macy's Backstage store. The Backstage stores have been a bargain-hunters community fixture since 2015 and feature clearance items from other Macy's locations.

Macy's planned most of the store closures to be completed during the first quarter of the year, so many locations have already shuttered their doors. See which stores have already closed and find out where to go instead.

• Mesa: 6535 E. Southern Ave.

There are only six stores remaining in Arizona. Mesa residents may have to go to Phoenix to peruse the retailer in person.

• Los Angeles: 750 W. 7th St.

• Westminster: 300 Westminster Mall

Nine locations in California have been closed, but there are 81 stores remaining throughout the rest of the state for shoppers who prefer to make their purchases in person.

• Denver: 8298 E. Northfield Blvd.
• Centennial: 6797 South Vine St.

There are still two Macy's stores remaining in Denver, but the city has a worrying trend of major retailers quietly closing their doors. In addition to Macy's, there have also been locations closing for Big Lots and Walgreens.

Florida malls have their anchor stores dropping like flies, but despite these eight locations closing, there will still be 35 Macy's stores throughout the state.

• Duluth: 3360 Venture Parkway

• Suwanee: 3630 Peachtree Parkway

Shoppers in Georgia still have plenty of options. The state has 19 other locations remaining for consumers to enjoy.

• Coeur D'alene: 200 W. Hanley Ave. Ste 200-4

The Silver Lake Mall location has been permanently closed, leaving just one Macy's location in all of Idaho — in the Boise Towne Square.

• Springfield: 104 White Oaks Mall

Macy's was the last department store holding space in the Springfield Mall since the departure of Sears and Bergner's in 2018. They have now vacated the space, leaving the mall without an anchor department store.

• Lafayette: 5733 Johnston St. Ste. 2098

There are only two Macy's stores left in Louisiana. Shoppers will have to go to Baton Rouge or Metairie — or shop online — to get their department store fix.

• Kingston: 101 Kingston Collection Way Ste. 1

Independence Mall has lost its Macy's, but there are still 15 remaining locations for shoppers throughout the state. Patrons of the Kingston location will have to go to Hanover to find the nearest Macy's.

• Baltimore: 6901 Security Blvd Ste. 871
• Bel Air: 600 Baltimore Pike

Baltimore County purchased the 9-acre Macy's site in a $6.5 million deal as part of a plan to redevelop the Security Square Mall in Woodlawn after years of struggling. The state has 11 remaining Macy's.

It's not just shoppers impacted by the Macy's closings. Hundreds of employees in Michigan will be losing jobs as each location shuts down.

• Burnsville: 14251 Burnhaven Drive

The Burnsville Center and Maplewood Mall are both losing their Macy's stores, leaving Minnesota with nine remaining locations.

• Kansas City: 400 N.W. Barry Road Ste 150
• Saint Louis: 10 S. County Center Way

Kansas City has lost its Macy's but is gaining a Furniture Mall of Missouri, which will be taking over the Northland space. Renovations began on April 1, and it's scheduled to open towards the end of the year.

The store on Fulton Street has been a staple location for nearly 30 years, first opening its doors in 1995 after taking over the historic Abraham & Straus department store.

The Fairfield Commons Mall and Franklin Park Mall have lost their Macy's. However, there are still 18 other locations left in Ohio.

• Hillsboro: 2055 N.E. Allie Ave.
• Salem: 400 High St. N.E.

The Hillsboro Macy's has closed, and a mixed-use building proposal was sent to the local community on March 25. The new developer hopes to have retail stores on the ground floor with six stories of residential apartments above.

• Philadelphia: 1300 Market St.
• Wilkes Barre: 59 Wyoming Valley Mall

Philadelphia is saying farewell not just to Macy's but to the iconic Wanamaker Building, as well. The location has been a department store for nearly 150 years, and it will be closed off to the public until a future use has been determined. This includes the bronze eagle, Christmas light show, pipe organ, and interior atrium.

• Memphis: 4545 Poplar Ave.

The Oak Court Mall has lost its Macy's; however, the state has three other locations in Memphis, Nashville, and Franklin.

• Houston: 100 Almeda Mall
• Fairview: 201 Stacy Road
• Plano: 6209 W Park Blvd.
• Southlake: 321 State St.
• Fort Worth: 1751 River Run #101
• Flower Mound: 6101 Long Prairie Road Ste. 500

The closing of the Almeda Mall's location means the mall is now without any anchor stores, and locals will have to commute to one of the other three Macy's in Houston.

• Colonial Heights: 170 Southpark Circle

Southpark Mall is the only place losing its Macy's in Virginia. Locals will have to travel to Chesterfield or Short Pump to shop at the department store now.

• Redmond: 15340 N.E. 24th St.
• Silverdale: 10315 Silverdale Way N.W.

The Kitsap Mall no longer has a Macy's, along with two other Washington locations. The state still has 19 remaining stores for customers to shop at.

In February 2024, Macy's also announced plans to close a total of 150 locations over three years. This is part of their "Bold New Chapter" strategy that aims to reinvest the money saved in their 350 remaining stores.

Macy's is pulling a significant mall footprint in this round of closures, which could be the final nail in the classic shopping mall experience.

The legacy retailer isn't the only department store facing closures, either. In January, Kohl's also announced that 27 stores would be closing, leaving customers without a reliable place to use their top rewards credit card.
