The Bank of America location on North Laura Street in Jacksonville is expected to close on June 25. It's on the ground floor of the Bank of America Tower, the city's tallest building.

Customers will still be able to access the ATM at that location, but there will be no additional services typical for a bank branch. So, Jacksonville residents will either have to find a new Bank of America location or open a new bank account.

Borrow up to $50k to finally crush your debt

If you have thousands in debt and you’re barely making it paycheck to paycheck, you know how suffocating it is. Debt is always on your mind. It controls your life. And even if you make on-time payments, they’re so expensive that you have nothing left over.

A personal loan could help you get out of this situation and lift your monthly debt burden significantly. You could finally pay off all of your debt at once, get rid of the sky-high interest rates, and slash your debt load to one manageable monthly payment.

AmONE is a marketplace where you can find some of the best personal loans available. They match you with loans up to $50,000 with rates as low as 2.49%. That’s better than most credit cards. And easier than draining your bank account every month. Seeing what you qualify for doesn’t affect your credit score, and if you’re approved, you could get money the next day.

Fifth Third Bank

Florida has 177 Fifth Third Bank branches. Despite the closing of the Gibsonton Drive location, customers can still visit two additional branches in Riverview.

TD Bank

  • 3325 W. Hillsboro Blvd., Deerfield Beach
  • 2675 W. State Road 434, Longwood

At 167 branches, Florida has more TD Bank locations than any other state. That may be one reason why the bank decided it could afford to close the branches in Deerfield Beach and Longwood.

Why banks are closing branches in Florida

The increased use of online banking means fewer customers are using traditional in-person options for their financial needs. The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated that trend, as customers had no choice but to try online options.

As more customers bank online, it only makes sense to close physical branches. In addition, as banks merge, more branches close when companies consolidate their physical footprints as part of the merger.

Where banks are opening branches in Florida

There are some rays of sunshine for customers in the Sunshine State, as banks also continue to open branches throughout Florida where you can grow your savings.

JPMorgan Chase announced it will open 10 branches in northern Florida to meet the growing demand for services among the area's new residents.

TD Bank also plans to target specific areas of Florida in response to the state's population growth.

Bottom line

Many banks are in the process of closing branches, which could be an issue if you prefer a little in-person help when you bank.

On the other hand, you can also try an online bank — perhaps one that offers a high-yield savings account — to see if that works for your transactions. Or, consider switching to a different bank or joining a credit union. Whatever you choose, it's important to protect your wealth.
