Target To Open in 39 Cities Throughout 2025 (Is Yours One of Them?)

Last spring, Target announced big plans for expanding their location imprint — hoping to add hundreds of stores in the next ten years. This news was met with joy by shoppers who save money at Target and love visiting stores to find bargains.

However, Target’s 2025 announcement saying they would be rolling back DEI initiatives has left many loyal customers boycotting the store instead. Nonetheless, the big-box store continues with its expansion plans and hopes to have a store within 10 miles of every doorstep.

Target has 39 new locations scheduled and may be coming to a city near you. See the cities about to get a new Target store.

• Surprise (Highway 303 and Waddell Rd.)
• Queen Creek (37854 N. Gantzel Rd.)

Both the Surprise and Queen Creek locations will have more than 145,000 square feet of shopping space for customers.

• Fresno Fancher Creek (205 S. Clovis Ave.)
• South Lake Tahoe (4000 Lake Tahoe Blvd.)

In 2024, Target closed four locations in California. These included stores in East Palo Alto, San Francisco, Oakland, and Pittsburg.

• Guilford (900 Boston Post Rd.)
• Norwalk (680 Connecticut Ave.)

Both of the new Target locations will occupy a space formerly used by Walmart.

• Bradenton Heritage Harbour (725 Lighthouse Dr.)
• Cypress Creek Station (6415 N. Andrews Ave.)
• Lake Nona (Lake Nona Blvd., half mile east of Boggy Creek Rd.)
• Miami Beach North (400 71st St.)
• Trailwinds Village (County Rd. 466A and Seven Mile Dr.)
• Wesley Chapel Grove (corner of Oakley Blvd. and Pink Flamingo Ln.)

Six new locations mean Florida is getting the second-highest number of stores for any state.

• Pocatello Chubbuck (Pine Ridge Mall)

The space formerly occupied by JCPenney will become a Target; however, SimonCRE, a national development and acquisition firm headquartered in Scottsdale, AZ, is still building it.

• Frankfort (Highway 64 and Route 127)

The Paddocks of Frankfort is planned to be the largest shopping center in Frankfort and Franklin County history. It will feature a 128,000-square-foot Target.

• Springfield (West Sunshine Street and West Bypass)
• University City (Olive Blvd. between Interstate Highway 170 and Woodson Rd.)

The new Target at University City will be the second anchor store in the $211-million Market at Olive development. The first anchor store is Costco, which will be joined by several restaurants, including Panera, Raising Cane’s, Chipotle, and Chick-fil-A.

• Fuquay-Varina (2901 Wallace Adcock Blvd.
• Myrtle Grove (Carolina Beach Rd. and Piner Rd.)
• Selma (551 Saint Mark Ave.)

North Carolina's recent popularity growth may be a contributing factor in the new Target stores in the Tar Heel State.

• South Fargo (Interstate Highway 29 and 52nd Ave. South)

There is already an existing Target in Fargo, but soon a second store will be added.

• Grand Island (West 13th St., between Highway 281 and North Webb Road)

This is the first location in Grand Island, so visit the new, modern-day Target before visiting the Stuhr Museum in the city, which spotlights the past.

• Flemington (325 Rte. 202)

Flemington Marketplace will be getting a new Target location that will include a CVS Pharmacy and a Starbucks. You can also hop off the Garden State Parkway around the Jon Bon Jovi Service Area to get to a new Target location on Route 9 in Old Bridge, the first Target location in the city that opened last year.

• Bridgehampton (2044 Montauk Hwy.)
• Queens Astoria (31st St. between Ditmars Blvd. and 23rd Ave.)

The Astoria location was initially set to open in 2023. However, it has had several delays.

• Lima (Elida Rd. and North Cable Rd.)

A deed was filed in January for Target Corporation’s purchase of nine acres of land where a Macy’s was formerly located.

• West Chester (985 Paoli Pike)

A Doylestown location was recently added to the state’s list of Target stores, and the West Chester location is planned to be even larger.

• Indian Land (5345 Crossridge Blvd.)
• Lexington (between Oak Pointe Dr. and Jamestowne Ct. on Augusta Highway)
• Seneca (1810 Sandifer Blvd.)

The Lexington location is planned to be the anchor store of a new shopping center connected to Emmitt Smith, who had a long career with the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys.

• Brookings (north of 6th St. / Highway 14 and east of Interstate Highway 29)

The Brookings Marketplace development has planned to feature Target and Aldi as anchor stores for the land previously home to the Department of Transportation.

• Dallas (Wynnewood Village, 655 W. Illinois Ave.)
• Denton (2755 W. University, Building R)
• Forney (11520 East U.S. 80)
• Fort Worth (McPherson Blvd. and Chisholm Trail Pkwy.)
• Katy Heritage (29355 Katy Fwy.)
• Little Elm (U.S. Highway 30 and Ryan Spiritas Parkway)
• Stafford (Arc Ln.)

The highest number of new stores for any state goes to Texas, with seven new locations planned.

• Logan (1300 Main St.)

Residents of Logan will no longer have to drive 51 miles away to go to a Target as a new store will be opening. A 135,000-square-foot location in Provo also opened in April and is the second Target store in the city south of Salt Lake City. Brigham Young University is located in the city.

• South Riding (Loudoun County Parkway and Dulles West Boulevard)

The 148,000 square-foot location will be an anchor store for the upcoming Shops at Arcola retail center, an area that was farmland in 2002 but has since grown into a suburban hub.

Target Corporation continues with its expansion plan. However, the company still faces challenges that could impact its future.

A class action lawsuit has been filed by The Rosen Law Firm on behalf of common stock purchasers. The lawsuit alleges that Target misled investors regarding Environmental, Social, and Governance ("ESG") and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion ("DEI") mandates.
