REI Is Opening 5 Stores Through 2026 (Is Your City Getting One?)

REI is many people's "go-to" retailer for camping, hiking, cycling, and other outdoor pursuits, particularly because they often offer discounts and deals, helping consumers save money shopping via their REI Outlet. 

It's a sales strategy that's obviously paying off for the outdoor specialist, with $3.53 billion in net sales last year and three new stores on the way in 2025. The cooperative company is also planning additional expansion throughout 2026.

• Opening Date: July 25, 2025
• 9145 W Stockton Blvd

The new Elk Grove REI store opens at Laguna Gateway, just north of the stunning Elk Grove Regional Park. Like the Chico store, there will be a celebratory weekend with giveaways, plus an "Outdoor Social" with music and visiting outdoor brands. There are still job vacancies at this new location for sales specialists and snow shop/bike mechanics.

• Opening Date: Summer 2025
• Turner Drive

Durango is a top destination for skiers, which is why REI is opening this new store with a seasonal ski and snowboard section inside. REI already has nearly 9,000 co-op members in the Durango area, so the new opening will cater to these while creating 50 new jobs in the area. The store's original spring opening has since been delayed until summer 2025.

• Opening Date: 2026, date TBD
• Address: 700 Richland Blvd, The Gates of Prosper 

As well as the new openings in 2025, REI has announced further expansion into 2026. One of these new stores will be conveniently located in a major shopping center in Prosper, Texas, joining four existing Dallas-Fort Worth stores and 11 more across the state. The Prosper location will notably include a full-service bike shop.

• 855 S Bluff St., St. George Place 

Originally set for a fall 2025 opening, REI now aims to open the new St. George store in Spring 2026. St. George, Utah, is a prime location for an outdoor specialist retailer. It's conveniently nestled between three state parks and the Red Cliffs National Conservation Area, perfect spots for cycling, hiking, and climbing.

• Address: 2350 Oakmont Way, Oakway Center 

The current REI store in Eugene, Oregon, is more than three decades old and an established part of the community. REI plans to relocate the store to a larger and more centrally located unit in the Oakway Center. All existing employees have been invited to move with the relocation, but the larger store will also create new roles.

As of June 2025, REI has already opened new stores or relocated ones to the following locations:

• Amherst, NY: 1701 Niagara Falls Blvd, Suite 500
• Carlsbad, CA: 3415 Via Montebello
• Lynwood, WA: 19500 Alderwood Mall Parkway, Suite 110
• Chico, CA: 2101 Dr Martin Luther King Jr Parkway, Suite 30

If you love the outdoors, REI's new openings could be good news for you, especially if you live in one of the cities highlighted above and love to keep more cash in your wallet.

REI also plans to open more stores in 2026, continuing its current successful expansion plans, although no details exist on where the new stores will be due to lease details still being confirmed. 

Other retailers are also taking advantage of the increased interest in outdoor pursuits. Sierra, part of the TJX family, also plans to expand significantly in 2025, giving fans of the great outdoors even more choices on their doorstep.
