It's no secret that artificial intelligence (AI) is completely disrupting the job market. But AI's impact varies by industry. Some workers are more at risk from the threat of AI than others. If your job is at risk, it could be time to beef up your financial situation or potentially look for a new career path.

This guide explores which workers seem most at risk, according to Mark Cuban.

1. Entry-level workers

Many companies are finding that AI can handle many of the tasks that used to belong to entry-level workers. So, not surprisingly, it's getting tougher to find an entry-level job. That's especially true in entry-level positions in the tech space. For example, new software engineers and programmers are having a difficult time landing their first jobs.

2. AI-resistant workers

For many, it's natural to turn away from AI. After all, these tools might seem out to get your job. But opting out of AI is likely the wrong move. Instead, those who lean into learning about and making the most of AI tools will likely succeed in the job market.

"If I were graduating today, or if I were a 16-year-old looking for a job, I would learn everything there is to know about AI," said Cuban in an interview with Fast Company.

3. Software developers

AI coding tools are allowing more and more people to 'vibe-code.' As AI makes it easier to build worthwhile code, it's possible that traditional software engineering jobs will be harder to find. After all, if AI can handle some of the hard work of building out code, it will likely reduce the value of basic programming tasks.

4. Customer service

AI-powered chatbots can make it easy for customers to get answers to basic questions. It seems likely that companies will continue to lean heavily on AI to cover more and more customer service tasks. As the emphasis on AI grows, customer service positions may become harder to find.

5. Workers unwilling to adapt

AI is changing how we work, at least for most workers. It might not be likely that AI will eliminate your particular job. But it is likely that the emerging technology will change what employers expect from their workers.

"I don't think it's so much jobs being replaced," said Cuban in an interview with LinkedIn News, "you're going to have to learn to contribute in different ways."

How to move forward: Use AI tools early

Although Cuban predicts that AI will disrupt the job market, he hasn't predicted widespread unemployment due to the implementation of AI. Instead, it's more likely that new opportunities will emerge with this new technology. That means workers will need to expand their skills to fit the changing market.

If at all possible, start getting comfortable with AI tools. Even just playing around with some AI tools can help you start to understand how they work. From there, you could try to learn even more through coursework or simply try to solve simple problems you're facing with the help of AI.

For those who already work for a company, consider looking for ways to apply AI to streamline workflows. If you can solve a pesky problem, like scheduling or ordering, with the help of an AI agent, that could be the beginning of mastering these new tools.

Of course, adopting AI will be tricky for many workers. But those who put the effort into staying on top of AI tools will likely maintain their employability in a changing job market.

Bottom line

AI is changing how work gets done and what companies are looking for in workers. As you navigate the changing job market, getting comfortable with AI tools could help you keep an advantage over other workers. It's also a good idea to consider building out multiple income streams to help you keep your financial situation stable regardless of how AI impacts your industry.
