How inflation has impacted Halloween candy prices

Just how much have candy prices increased in the last few years? FinanceBuzz collected both historic and current prices for bulk bags of mixed Halloween candy from major retailers across America from 2020 to 2025, and found that on average, the cost for a 100-piece bag of candy is $16.39 in 2025.

That's up more than $2 from last year, and 78% since 2020. Five years ago, shoppers paid an average of just $9.19 for a bag. This year, that number is over $7 more. The increase from 2020 to 2025 is also more than triple the national rate of inflation (25%) over that same time period.

Given these price surges, where can you get the sweetest bargain? Here are our top bulk candy deals.

6. Albertsons

Comparing the price per piece is a great way to stretch your Halloween budget. At Albertsons, you can snag a 200-piece Halloween candy variety pack for $31.99. That means each piece works out to 16 cents.

Another great way to save is to check out the retailer's weekly ad. This week at Albertsons, for example, Hershey Halloween Variety Candy bags are going for $14.99 each when you buy two.

5. Kroger

Over at Kroger, you'll pay just 15 cents per piece, slightly cheaper than Albertsons. A bulk bag of Halloween candy with 200 pieces is currently listed for $29.99.

Kroger also offers a free loyalty membership program, which means you can stock up on Halloween candy with your Shopper's Card and save even more money with exclusive, member-only deals.

4. Target

You'll find a wide selection of candy at Target, along with competitive pricing. A 200-count mixed candy bag costs $25.99 at the retailer, making each piece just 13 cents.

Like Albertson's, Target also offers a weekly ad full of deals. Beyond just sales on Halloween candy this week, you can also find party supplies, costumes, and Halloween decor.

3. Walmart

Everyone knows Walmart offers some of the lowest prices on a variety of goods, including Halloween candy. This year, you can snag a 200-count bulk bag for $24.96, or 12 cents per piece. That's enough savings to grab a bag for yourself.

2. Costco

Costco members are aware that the big box retailer's bulk prices are hard to beat, and Halloween candy is no exception. We found a 200-count variety pack for $20.99, which breaks down to about just 10 cents per piece, making it one of the lowest prices.

When shopping at Costco, make sure to check out the store's private Kirkland Signature label for even more savings. You'll get high-quality items that rival name brands, often for even lower prices.

1. Sam's Club

Which retailer has the absolute best deal on bulk candy this Halloween? For shoppers looking to save big, Sam's Club takes the crown.

You can expect to pay just $17.98 for 200 pieces of Halloween candy. That makes each piece 9 cents, the lowest among all six retailers we compared.

Bottom line

According to the FinanceBuzz study, Americans spent a record $4.1 billion on Halloween candy last year, or about $31 per household. And with the average 100-count bag costing over $16, some additional smart shopping hacks could be the key to having plenty to hand out on Halloween night without breaking the bank.

Buying in bulk often means cheaper prices per piece, especially if you anticipate a large number of trick-or-treaters. And, beyond checking for coupons and weekly ads at your favorite retailer, setting a budget before you hit the store means you can estimate your needs and avoid overspending.
