If you're looking to deposit some cash or open a new bank account, you'll want to make sure your bank is open — especially around any holidays. While there's no requirement that banks have to close on the 11 federal holidays in the United States, most do as it has become standard practice.
Florida banks are no exception. Although Florida doesn't have any additional specific state holidays that banks close for, they do adhere to the federal holiday schedule.
If you do your banking in Florida, here is a list of the observed state bank holidays for the Sunshine State in 2025.

Jan. 1 marks the start of a new year for most of the world, and you shouldn't expect to stop by your local bank on this holiday.

President Ronald Reagan signed a bill to create Martin Luther King Jr. Day in 1983. However, it wasn't observed as a federal holiday until three years later, with several states resisting observance. In 2000, the holiday was officially celebrated federally and in all 50 states.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day always falls on the third Monday in January. In 2025, this day coincides with another federal holiday — Inauguration Day.
January 20, 2025: Inauguration Day

While this day only occurs every four years, it's important to note that on Inauguration Day this year, banks will be closed since it coincides with Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
This is the first time in 28 years that the two have fallen on the same day. Thanks to the 20th Amendment, Inauguration Day is always on Jan. 20. Even if there was no inauguration this year, banks would still be closed.

Holiday pay and employment in Florida
/images/2024/10/15/holding-paycheck.png)
In Florida, private employers are not required to offer paid time off for holidays. Each employer is allowed to establish their own leave policies for federal and state holidays, vacation time, unlimited PTO, and other types of leave.
Florida employers are also not required to pay employees for holidays — unless they actually worked on the holiday or the employer has a policy or practice stating holiday pay.
In addition, there is no federal or Florida law that requires being paid time and a half just because it's a holiday. The exception is for non-exempt employees. If you are a non-exempt employee who worked over 40 hours in the work week, you must be paid time and a half for hours worked over 40 hours.
Bottom line
/images/2024/12/30/bank_teller_hands_cash_to_a_person.png)
Federal holidays often impact how your deposits and withdrawals show up in your accounts, such as debits and charges being delayed or transactions not being posted until the following business day.
By keeping track of bank holidays, you can lower your financial stress and better plan for these delays.
