Delta offers several cabin experiences for flyers, including economy, first class, and an in-between option called Delta Comfort+. You can book a Comfort+ ticket using your Delta SkyMiles by logging into your account and searching for an award flight.

Delta Comfort+ comes with extra legroom, expedited boarding, and a few other perks. You can choose Delta Comfort+ when you book your ticket or add it later as an upgrade, if available.

Let’s take a closer look at the steps you can take to book a Delta Comfort+ fare using your miles.

In this article

Key takeaways

  • Delta Comfort+ is a seat option that’s a step up from the Main Cabin.
  • A Comfort+ seat comes with extra legroom, priority boarding, upgraded snacks, and dedicated overhead bins.
  • You can purchase a Comfort+ ticket using Delta SkyMiles, cash, or a combination of the two.
  • If you don’t choose Comfort+ when you buy your ticket, you may still be able to add it as an upgrade later, depending on availability.

What is Delta Comfort+?

Delta Comfort+ is Delta Air Lines’s premium economy option. It’s a step up from the Main Cabin but doesn’t offer as many perks as Delta’s First Class or Premium Select tickets. You can think of it as a fare between standard economy class and business class on other airlines.

If you choose Delta Comfort+, you’ll get the following benefits and perks.

  • More legroom: You’ll get up to three extra inches in front of your Delta Comfort+ seat than you would in the Main Cabin.
  • Priority boarding: Delta Comfort+ flyers board before Main Cabin and basic economy flyers. Since Delta Comfort+ is located closer to the front of the plane than the Main Cabin, you’ll deplane faster, too.
  • Dedicated overhead bins: With Delta Comfort+, you get dedicated bin space for your carry-on bag.
  • Premium snacks and drinks: You’ll also get access to upgraded snacks and drinks in Delta Comfort+, including free Starbucks coffee, beer, and wine on flights traveling over 251 miles and free spirits on flights over 500 miles.
  • Amenity kit on long flights: Depending on the length of your flight, you could also get a free amenity kit with a pillow, blanket, and complimentary earbuds.

How to book Delta Comfort+ with SkyMiles

You can book a Delta Comfort+ ticket when you purchase your flight or add it as an upgrade at a later date. Delta gives you the option of covering the extra cost in cash or Delta SkyMiles. (It’s free to sign up for a SkyMiles account and start earning miles.)

You’ll earn SkyMiles for every dollar you spend on Delta flights (excluding basic economy, which is a step down from the Main Cabin). You can also earn SkyMiles in several other ways, including purchases you make with a Delta credit card.

Here are the steps you’ll need to take to book Delta Comfort+ with SkyMiles.

  1. Log into your Delta account on Delta’s website or the Fly Delta app. You can log in using your SkyMiles number or username and password.

  1. Search your flights by entering departure city, destination, and dates. Choose Delta Comfort+ in the fare list and click “Shop With Miles” and “My dates are flexible” if you’d like to see prices for seven days.

  1. Choose the date you prefer. You can also view the price calendar to check out more dates.

  1. You can now view the flights available on this date. You can sort the results by price, time, and more. For example, this is a flight between John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York and O'Hare International Airport (ORD) in Illinois.

  1. Delta also gives you a hybrid option to pay in cash and miles, which can be useful if you don’t have enough miles to cover the total cost of your Comfort+ ticket.

  1. Select the flight that works best for you. You may need to enter your credit card information to complete your purchase.

Is Delta Comfort+ worth it?

Delta Comfort+ offers some benefits that may make the upgrade worth it for you. The extra legroom could make for a more comfortable flying experience, especially on long-haul flights.

Plus, you might appreciate priority boarding, faster deplaning, and designated bin space, especially if you’re trying to catch another flight with a tight layover.

However, if you’re taking a short or domestic flight, you may not get a significant benefit from flying Delta Comfort+. That said, it’s worth looking for this fare regardless of your flight length if you have Delta Medallion status and can qualify for a free upgrade to Comfort+.

Delta Premium Select offers even more upgrades than Comfort+. With Premium Select, you board before Comfort+ (though after First Class) and are located closer to the front of the plane for faster deplaning.

You’ll get access to upgraded menu choices and snack baskets, as well as salad and bread alongside your entree and dessert on international flights. The seats also come with more legroom, a deeper recline, and a fold-out, adjustable foot and leg rest.

Both Delta Comfort+ and Premium Select come with designated storage space for your carry-on and give the flexibility of no change fees on certain flights and an eCredit for canceled flights.
