Bottom line

Today's new cars typically come with a basic three-year or 36,000-mile warranty. But what happens if a new vehicle starts having issues after that period?

Buying a car from an automaker offering a longer warranty can potentially be one of the smart money moves if you own a car.

Just keep in mind that warranty coverage often specifies that drivers must have repairs done at certified dealerships.
