6 Auto Manufacturers With the Most Recalls Already in 2025

Financially savvy car owners often shop around to find a cheaper auto insurance policy, but researching whether your vehicle is from a manufacturer that has a significant recall history is a smart move as well.

Considering that millions of vehicles are affected by recalls each year, some of these could significantly impact a driver's ability to safely operate their vehicle, potentially leaving them without a vehicle for an undetermined amount of time.

Consumers who want to skip out on this frustrating inconvenience should be aware of which manufacturers currently have the most recalls on file with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). According to the NHTSA's most recent data, here's which manufacturers take the cake.

Recalls: 12

As of June 18, 2025, Honda has 12 recalls on file with the NHTSA. Of those dozen recalls, the Japanese automaker has issued three that affect more than 150,000 vehicles each.

Those recalls involved failing vehicle lights, a brake pedal failure, and a software issue that can cause the engine to stall.

In total, 729,344 Honda vehicles have been potentially affected by recalls through June 18, 2025. In comparison, Honda only had six recalls by June 18 of 2024. However, those six recalls affected 1,081,822 vehicles.

Recalls: 12

As of June 18, 2025, General Motors has issued 12 recalls. Those recalls potentially affect 814,409 vehicles.

Fortunately, during the same time period in 2024, General Motors had only issued 10 recalls. Those recalls potentially affected 640,220 vehicles.

The automaker's most significant recall last year was a tailgate latch issue, which could cause tailgates to open while the vehicle was in operation. That recall affected 570,434 vehicles.

Recalls: 13

Mercedes-Benz has issued 13 recalls as of June 18, 2025. A total of 130,661 of the German automaker's vehicles have potentially been affected by those recalls so far.

Their biggest recall, which affects 92,851 vehicles, pertains to a C-pillar that provides inadequate protection during a crash.

Through June 18, 2024, Mercedes-Benz had issued 14 recalls, which potentially affected 335,800 vehicles.

So far this year, Chrysler has had 15 recalls, which represents 8% of the total across manufacturers.

Their most significant recall pertains to faulty rearview camera images and potentially affects up to 235,640 vehicles. Overall, 85,914 Chrysler vehicles have been involved in recalls so far this year.

Chrysler had issued twice the number of recalls during this time last year, at 30. Those recalls potentially affected 2,251,746 vehicles.

Volkswagen has issued 15 recalls as of June 18, 2025. Those recalls have potentially affected 612,975 vehicles.

Through June 18, 2024, Volkswagen had issued only seven recalls, which affected a total of 360,270 vehicles. At this point last year, the German automaker's largest recall was due to a fuel leak issue that potentially affected 261,257 vehicles.

Recalls: 78

As of June 18, 2025, Ford has issued a jaw-dropping 78 recalls. Those recalls potentially affect 4,077,633 vehicles.

Ford's biggest problem area is its electrical system, which has been the subject of 18 recalls so far this year. The most significant of these recalls has potentially affected 272,817 vehicles and pertains to a faulty battery that could cause a loss of drive power.

During the same time period last year, Ford had issued only 30 recalls. Those recalls affected a whopping 3,626,380 vehicles.

Drivers who want to know if they are impacted by a recall can check their vehicle's make and model year on the NHTSA's website.

They can also use their car's VIN number, which is located on both their registration and in the lower left-hand corner of their windshield, on the NHTSA's website to see if their vehicle has been recalled.
